H-1B is a category of nonimmigrant visa for specialty occupation workers temporarily in the United States. The H-1B visa is reserved for occupations requiring the theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge, and attainment of a bachelor’s or higher degree in the specific specialty (or its equivalent) as a minimum for entry into the occupation in the United States.
Will Tulsa Remote sponsor me for an H-1B?
No, Tulsa Remote will not provide you with H-1B sponsorship. Tulsa Remote is a unique recruitment initiative aimed at attracting talented individuals to Tulsa. The program brings remote workers and digital nomads to the community by providing $10,000 grants and numerous community-building opportunities.
I already have H-1B status, am I eligible to participate in Tulsa Remote?
Yes! If you have secured H-1B status, and your employer supports your ability to work remotely from Tulsa, you may be eligible for the benefits Tulsa Remote offers. You can apply to Tulsa Remote here.
How can I bring my H-1B to Tulsa?
You will need to work with your employer to secure an amendment to your approved H-1B petition based on a change in worksite location to Tulsa, Oklahoma. This would allow you to maintain your same employer and position, while obtaining authorization from the immigration service to work at a different worksite location- remotely from Tulsa.
If I ask my employer to amend my H-1B petition, are they required to do so?
Your employer is not required to amend your H-1B petition to allow for a change in worksite. Many employers will accommodate an employee’s request to move. As with your current H-1B petition, your employer must comply with the terms and conditions set out in the labor condition application (LCA) and the approved H-1B petition, whether it is the original or an amended petition.
What are my obligations in amending the H-1B?
You will need to work with your employer to secure an amendment to your approved H-1B petition prior to working remotely from Tulsa.
